●Niihama Taiko Festival (Ehime Prefecture)
The Niihama Taiko Festival is characterized by its powerful performances and the excitements, using large drums called “taiko-dai.” In this festival, over 150 men lift the taiko-dai, which is about 5 meters high, 12 meters long, and weighs about 2.5 tons, and parade through the town. The sight of more than 50 taiko-dai parading is overwhelming. It is also one of the three major fighting festivals in Japan, making it a very energetic festival. The sound of the powerful drums boom throughout the town, and just looking at the sight of people dancing to the rhythm of the drums makes your heart jump up.
